Mount Scopus is widely recognized among the world’s top Jewish schools. With participating formal and informal learning over time, the College was a foundation of the Melbourne Jewish community for more than 70 decades. Mount Scopus Memorial College, popularly called Mount Scopus College, is an independent Modern Orthodox Jewish comprehensive co-educational ancient learning, primary, and secondary day school, situated in the Melbourne suburb of Burwood, Victoria, Australia.

Tuesday 8 February 1949 – a momentous date. The Victorian Jewish Day School for Girls and Boys, called Mount Scopus College has been started. On this day, 143 primary aged students walked throughout the repurposed Victorian home gate in 414 St. Kilda Rd.. Melbourne to start their schooling.

From the mid-to-late 1940’s, waves of survivor refugees immigrated to Melbourne with a renewed spirit following the murderous loss of European Jewry during World War II. The Jewish inhabitants of the city shortly flourished. Throughout the tenacity of a small set of visionary founders, the route was desperately paved for the initial co-educational Jewish Day School at Melbourne. However to be formally named, the enrollment was made for Victorian School No.1490.

Enrolments in the College grew exponentially and over three years longer space was urgently needed. An expansive website was procured in Burwood, advanced programs were made and multi-phase, multi-building structure was under way. By 1955 and just six years after launching, the College had registered over 600 primary and secondary students across two campuses. Jewish Life and Learning
